The Fresno Police Chief’s Foundation was created by a coalition of concerned citizens, business leaders, and members of the Fresno Police Department in 2002.
The foundation is designed to give Fresno’s law enforcement officers the tools they need to properly and safely do their jobs – tools that many mistakenly believe are already funded by taxpayers. The fact is, taxpayers do a great job of supplying Fresno police officers with basic necessities like uniforms, firearms, and ammunition, but law enforcement is a rapidly changing profession, heavily reliant on technology that cannot always be found in governmental budgets.
The Fresno Police Chief’s Foundation, much like similar foundations in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, was created to bridge the gap between what is provided and what is needed – all with the safety of the officers and the safety of the community as the top priority. The Fresno Police Department exists for the safety of all people – not only the people it protects, but for the protectors as well.
